About the Photographer

After growing up in a pretty cool house with a pretty cool family, I started working at a local film processing lab. This led me to see that my photos were better than the average persons, so I just starting shooting more and more. Since then I have spent my time with either a camera, a developer bottle or a dive cylinder in my hand. I spent some time with one of Adelaide's leading wedding photographers, and I got a lot of inspiration from there. Since learning to dive and becoming an instructor myself, it has given me the chance to not only take my camera underwater, but to meet some of the world's best underwater shooters. Until recently I had no formal education in photography, but I spent a lot of time watching the experts.

I have been lucky enough to be inspired by some of the world’s best underwater photographers, as well as the old time masters, Ansell Adams being the king of them all! The thing I enjoy about listening to great people speak is the way they make what they do seem so simple.

After studying photography formally, I learnt to love many aspects of photography. Now I am just as comfortable in the studio as I am photographing a wedding or a great white shark.

I owe a lot of credit to Pato, my long suffering husband, for putting a camera back in my hand again, as well as kicking me up the butt to keep me motivated. He is my inspiration, my mentor and my best friend. Pato brought with him two beautiful girls, who I love and adore. In December 2006, Pato also helped me bring into the world his greatest gift, our daughter Lara Ocean. Being a step mum, and becoming a mother has changed me in ways like I could never have imagined. It has brought with it many great moments and many challenges as well. Lara was born with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disease which affects her lungs and digestion. Lara leads a normal life, with a few trips to hospital a year. She endures physio twice a day, takes all her medicines and makes me so proud.

Digital photography has changed the world, but you still need to get the basics right. The basics not only cover composition and apertures, it also includes basic people skills as well as being able to move with the times. In saying that, I still shoot in Black and White, I can’t help myself! Although digital has changed photography, and has taught me a new love for digital printing and although it will never be a darkroom, it is still pretty cool! I hope it shows you that I not only love having a camera in my hand, I also love showing people my work in the hope it might brighten their day, even just a little bit.
